So what is the perfect amount of time power carving?
Well, just the right amount of time power carving for me will be different than it is for you. Depending on the amount of time you have, your physical health, and many other factors will determine just what the right amount of time is for you.
As I’m working on my Acanthus Leaf Gourd Carving Project the amount of time I can spend power carving is different than the amount of time I can spend power carving a flat-panel or something I can lay down on my turntable.
For me the Acanthus Leaf Gourd Carving
Project is something I can carve on for about an hour and a half each day. However, I can only do this for two or three days before the RSD pain in my right hand becomes too great and I have to rest it for a few days.
This gourd carving project is definitely going to take over 25 hours to complete, and that means over a month to complete this one gourd carving.
I know that there are many carvers out there that can easily carve for 6, 8, or even 10 hours each day. I would really love to be able to do this, but my reality says this will not ever be possible.
I have come a long ways with the overall quality of my life. There were many years where I could only carve for 5 to 15 minutes in a day, and then it would take 1 to 2 weeks for the pain to subside enough that I could continue carving again.
For me being able to carve for more than an hour three or four days a week is substantial and significant in my life.
I tell you this not complain or whine about my situation, but to give you an idea of my reality. There are many things that I would love to do, but due to my own personal physical health limitations the mind is stronger than the body. You may have a similar situation. Don’t let your personal situation hold you back from doing the things you love to do.
So what is just the right amount of time power carving?
This is individual for each one of us, but as you move forward in your power carving journey I hope you will remember to have fun. Power carving is not a sprint, but a journey of thousands and thousands of hours. power carving will last you a lifetime, and there always new things to learn.
So if you find yourself discouraged by not being able to carve enough; don’t fret. Do as much as you can do each day, and leave the rest for another day. Consistency and sustained small efforts will pay great dividends in the long run.
Please remember that power carving is one form of art. Expression of your thoughts, feelings, and ideas can be wonderfully expressed through this type of carving.
Be safe, have fun, and enjoy all your power carving experiences.
